Dar es Salaam, July 1-13, 2025 – East-West Seed Tanzania took part in this year’s Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, widely known as Saba Saba, meaning “seven seven” in Swahili, which remains one of Tanzania’s most significant national trade events. Held annually on July 7, the fair draws thousands of farmers, agribusinesses, and stakeholders from across the country and region.
At the Mwalimu Nyerere Fair Grounds, East-West Seed showcased its commitment to smallholder farmers with a vibrant booth and a live demonstration plot. Farmers had the opportunity to explore high-performing vegetable varieties, observe real-time crop performance, and receive practical agronomic advice from the East-West Seed team.
The event provided a valuable platform to share knowledge, build connections across the agricultural value chain, and reinforce the company’s role in promoting resilient, market-ready farming systems.
This year’s participation held special meaning for East-West Seed Tanzania. In the midst of the activities, the team paused to honor the memory of Simon N. Groot, the company’s late founder and 2019 World Food Prize laureate. His vision and lifelong dedication to empowering smallholder farmers will continue to guide the company’s work and inspire its mission across Africa.
With Saba Saba concluded, East-West Seed Tanzania now looks ahead to Nane Nane – “eight eight” in Swahili, Tanzania’s national Farmers Day, held on August 8, where agriculture once again takes center stage.
