Driving Farmer Success: “Sambath” Eggplant Delivers Strong Yields Across Cambodia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – East-West Seed Cambodia continues to demonstrate the impact of quality seeds and agronomic support on smallholder productivity, with recent results from farmers in Kampong Speu and Kampong Cham highlighting the strong performance of the “Sambath” eggplant variety.

Productivity and Profitability in Kampong Speu

In Kampong Speu province, farmer Mr. Cheng Krat cultivated 0.15 hectares of land using only 2.5 grams of Sambath seeds, producing an impressive 5.7 tons of eggplant.

Supported by East-West Seed Cambodia’s technical guidance, Mr. Krat applied best practices in soil preparation and crop management, resulting in a high-quality harvest well received in local markets.

Selling at 1,400 Riel per kilogram, he achieved a total income of approximately 8 million Riel (≈2,000 USD).

Expanding Scale in Kampong Cham

In Kampong Cham, Mr. Vy Naren achieved similar success on a larger scale. Planting 6 grams of Sambath seeds across 0.46 hectares, he harvested 18.6 tons of premium eggplants after just two months.

With a market price of 1,200 Riel per kilogram, Mr. Naren’s total income reached around 20.6 million Riel (≈5,150 USD). His results underline the strong yield potential and market appeal of the Sambath variety when combined with effective agronomic practices.
