Improving Lives of Smallholder Farmers

Smallholder farmers produce one-third of the world’s food and play a key role in environmental conservation. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), there are about 600 million smallholder farmers with less than 2 hectares of land, mostly in Asia and Africa. They face challenges like inadequate access to infrastructure and high-quality seeds, climate change, and other economic factors.

East-West Seed focuses on supporting smallholder vegetable farmers by providing high-quality seeds and farming skills to increase their income. Since 1982, we’ve improved tropical vegetable varieties to meet local market needs and growing conditions. Our improved varieties allow farmers to do more with less, producing year-round with less water and shorter harvesting times.

We also support sustainable intensification by providing knowledge transfer and training on cultivation techniques, enabling farmers to be more productive and maximize available resources.
